Adelaide Festival Centre is celebrating its success at the South Australian Music Awards after an Adelaide Guitar Festival act was among the winners announced on the weekend.

The UNESCO City of Music Best International Collaboration Award went to Slava and Leonard Grigoryan and Beijing Guitar Duo for their performance in Adelaide Guitar Festival 2018’s Festival Finale.

The performance saw Adelaide Guitar Festival artistic director Slava Grigoryan combine with his brother and the Beijing Guitar Duo to form a quartet honouring the late composer Phillip Houghton and his three-movement work Opals.

Adelaide Festival Centre CEO & Artistic Director Douglas Gautier AM: “This award acknowledges the great artistry and creative drive of Adelaide Guitar Festival’s artistic director Slava Grigoryan, his brother Lenny and the great musicians working with them. It also recognises the success of Adelaide Festival Centre’s initiatives to foster greater cultural engagement between China and Australia.”

The South Australian Music Awards celebrate excellence in the state’s contemporary music industry, with the Best International Collaboration Award recognising Adelaide’s status as the first and only UNESCO City of Music in Australia.
