A florist and a burger joint are amongst the venues to be signed up to Adelaide Festival Centre’s Guitars in Bars program, an exciting precursor to the 2018 Adelaide Guitar Festival.

Musicians and venues now have just a few days to register for Guitars in Bars, which runs from July 13-29.

Adelaide Guitar Festival Artistic Director Slava Grigoryan said more than 500 artists are expected to perform at dozens of venues across South Australia.

“Adelaide Guitar Festival’s Guitars in Bars is about celebrating Adelaide’s incredible live music scene,” he said. “From up-and-coming musicians to experienced performers, this is an opportunity to showcase some great talent.

“And it can happen virtually anywhere. Whether it’s a bar, a winery, a laundromat or a market. We want to mix it up and take live music to unexpected places as well, which will open doors to a wider audience.

“We’ve had interest from bars in the city, suburbs and regional areas, which is fantastic, as well as some unexpected venues, such as Popeye, a florist and a burger joint.

“So we’re hoping these people and places can get together and put on some great live shows. It’s certainly shaping up to be a really exciting program.”

Guitars in Bars connects musicians with venues in Adelaide and regional SA. Last year, it resulted in more than 200 gigs in 62 venues.

This year three acts from the Guitars in Bars program will be chosen to appear in the 2018 Adelaide Guitar Festival which runs 9 – 12 August.

Adelaide Festival Centre’s Artistic Director and CEO Douglas Gautier said it’s a wonderful opportunity.

“Adelaide Guitar Festival is the most significant festival of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere,” he said.

“We are bringing some of the world’s best guitar players to Adelaide, including Tommy Emmanuel and Friends, Grammy award-winning legend Albert Lee, and Martha Masters & Vladimir Gorbach.

“Having musicians of this calibre is a major coup and reaffirms our status as a UNESCO City of Music.

“Guitars in Bars plays an important part in the festival, whetting music lovers’ appetites for four days of outstanding local and international talent.”

The full 2018 Adelaide Guitar Festival program was released earlier this month.
