Adelaide Guitar Festival Winter School is a week-long guitar course which provides an opportunity to learn from some of Australia’s finest guitarists in a small, immersive, guitar playing and skills development intensive. The two streams available in 2022 are: Blues & Roots (11 – 15 July 2022) and Adelaide Guitar Festival Orchestra (18 – 22 July 2022).

The Adelaide Guitar Festival Orchestra program focusses on nylon string and classical techniques, ensemble playing and music reading development. Led by Dr Paul Svoboda, participants will rehearse in three sections which will come together for a full orchestral performance. The program is open to players of all ages but must be able to play at the equivalent to AMEB Grade 3 level or higher and have a good understanding of the fingerboard. View the program tutors

Adelaide Guitar Winter School (Director: Dr Paul Svoboda)
Adelaide Guitar Festival Orchestra 2022

Hello Guitarists, and welcome back to AGFO 2022!
Here are some bits of advice regarding the music this year.

  • There are 7 pieces listed for the Winter School 2022. While we’ll be working on these pieces throughout the week, we will be performing selected pieces for the concert.
  • One of the pieces – ABEDNEGO: A Boxer Named Bendigo – might look very difficult due to the number of notes. Don’t panic! It is actually easier than it looks, once you understand the simplicity.
  • Guitar 1s: In two of the ABEDNEGO pieces your section is split into 1A & 1B. The differences are small, so just pick whichever part (or learn both) and we’ll sort out the balance during the Winter School.
  • Guitar 3s and Bass will need to use picks in one piece, so bring your own.
  • If you don’t know what a Murmuration of Starlings is, search it on YouTube!

Best wishes – and I can’t wait to FINALLY make it back to Adelaide!!
Paul Svoboda
